Hi Abhishek,
Well, to be frank, I understood , probably late, that in IT industry preference is given to only 2 kinds of ppl - one, who can lick their PM's feet and second, who can show that they are competent either technically or any other skills( communication skills, negotiation, marketing, sales etc.). Now, in this dynamic & capricious industry, you can acquire technical skills upto a certain age and designation. After that, you are expected to lead teams and projects with the same acumen.

In US, ppl keep coding and gain technical experience upto 11-12 years of their sevice and then they move on to become JUST managers. In India, we ppl are expected to start early, arnd 5-6 yrs of exp. Now see the paradox here, ppl who become managers are just technical ppl and they do not have managerial skills and knowledge ie MBA. Similarly ppl who have done their MBA earlier ( say immediately after graduation or 1-2 yrs exp) do not have enough technical skill to lead a project. I feel the best combo is that of a techie(4-5 exp) and MBA( preferably from a reputed inst). That is why now the industries press for ppl having 6-7 yrs of exp to go for executive MBA while working.

I left the organization as I wanted to do full time MBA rather than executive MBA and migrate completely to the business line, as the last role I carried out was of Business Analyst cum Assoc. Proj. Manager. IBS gurgaon is my first choice but as I pointed out earlier, becoz of the faculty and students(most of them I hear have good no. of years of exp.) , Hyd has taken precedence.

I hope this reply would have answered what u wanted to know. Which industry do u belong to ?

Regards
Neeraj

Hi Neeraj,
I can so much relate to what you said.
I am currently working in TCS and am a fresher.I joined last year in December.I am B.sc Statistics Graduate and got chosen in an Ignite initiative (training non computer people for IT) of TCS.I am just settling down here.

In two years from now I am supposed to get MCA degree.More importantly, I am getting to learn all technical stuff ( I had always been interested in Computers).I am trying to make the most out of it and studying religiously everyday after Office hours.I am not just studying to get the MCA degree but I want to be quite proficient in C, Unix , Java, MS Office etc.I am trying to learn as much as I can.

My friends and family wanted me to do MBA now and then try for Analysts ( which is my dream profile).
I did not do it (hurting them which I didn't wanted to do). But Neeraj my point is I want to stay in IT industry and alone MBA won't help me.

I will do MBA eventually 2-3 years down the lane ( I am just 22 now so I have time). But, doing MBA now did not seem to be a good idea to me. I have no support for the decision I have made. I am also ready to face the consequences be it good or bad. I just know I won't ever regret my decision because IT WAS MY DECISION.

I hope you were able to understand what I meant. Thanks a lottttt for what you said.It motivated me even further.

Thanks Again

i have been able to reach some of the current exectuive course students. thy didnt seem to be very positive about the whole experience...... bt thy agree that this course would develop to be something very good in few years time. bt initial few batches have to put in hardwork towards that !

they would post thier feedback here soon...

neeraj & swaroop - am glad too have members like u participating here. never know u may turn out to be my boss in future Razz

Abhishek, the 1 yr guys can then proudly say that they were the pioneers of this program, once it scales new heights !

Swaroop, one correction in your statement....the packages of Sales and Mktg guys has a large component as variable salary. It is given out only if they achieve the targets they are supposed to. I guess there salary till that time is equal to other guys in the organization Smile

Abhishek's future boss Cool
