A simple case study
I want to share an incident from my life. Two of my very good friends (A & B) were given promotion in the first 6 months of their career. A realised that he was unexperienced and declined the offer while B jumped at it. After a few days, both were facing high level of stress, which not only affected their health but also the work quality. A was frustrated since he left a very good opportunity while B was facing problem handling the responsibilities.
Points to ponder:
1). From a long term point of view, which decision is better?
2). how can we prepare ourself for unexpected growth opportunity?
Before you answer anything, I want you guys to put yourself in shoes of A and B, then make any comment. House is open for discussion

Hi Mayank,
First of all I have to say your post made me think a lotttttt...Hmmm...See I believe the best way to learn something you are terrified of is facing it, life won't be bed of roses after that but eventually you will learn from your mistakes each day...But if you give up initially and wait till you think you are good enough for a desgination then that day may never come because nobody's perfect and we can't be good at everything anytime...
So I would have taken the job and made mistakes everyday and learn from them..
1. From a long term basis decision to face things you are scared of is better..The best way to learn a job is to do the job..It will be tough..It's a guarantee but running away and waiting for a time when you think that you are experienced enough to handle something may never come because as time passes you will think of newer and newer problems that you may face and you may not be able to handle.
Also, you can't be sure that if today you feel that now you can handle a job tommorrow something won't happen which may make you realise that you were not totally ready for it...So I believe just take the responsibility and make the best out of it.Even if you make a fool of yourself you will realise you learnt more then those people who sat waiting for the right time and right project.
2.You can never prepare yourself for an unexpected growth or decline..All you can do is be ready to face any challenge..Be it good or bad...Be confident enough to face failures and success with same state of mind...
Here I would like to quote few lines from my favourite poem IF by Rudyard Kipling
"If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too,
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And--which is more--you'll be a Man, my son!"
That's what I think...

intresting situation and good reply by isha. i too would have taken up the promotion - if its not challenging and difficult is it worth doing in the first place . tryng and faltering is better than not tryng at all. also one can never discover his capabilities till one reaches out, challenges his own notions and comes out of the comfort zone. if the company felt me to be capable of doing the job , am sure they know more about it than i do , and even if i feel im unqualified than i certainly loose the game even before it begins. and as ISHA said - AND YOU WILL BE A MAN , MY SON

most of the people will take the job, infact all with whom I discussed the case said this. I wish a few other people post their view and after that I"ll tell what actually happened with my friend.
One more question to all my friends in the forum: Try, try and try until we succeeeeeed... Is this applicable in the corporate world?
