I am not sure about how good Hyd is but Bombay doesn't have too many people with exposure to the IT industry.

I had a similar profile to yours and my suggestion would be to avoid IBS as personally I found it to be a huge misfit for me.

Hello ver 2.0 and et.al.,

Please dont take it personal, I am taking your help to convey this message to mass as generic thought which is developed in many youngsters.....

I am astonished to see many people coming from such big MNCs (mostly indian) having couples of years of experience, having around 5-7 lacs figures and land up themselves here. I am more surprised to see they chose IT as their main management stream.
I would advocate for continuing in the corporate if you are doing justice with your background (often engineers / MCAs) and better go for some certification programs like PMP / Six sigma / CISA and many more. This will not only push you to climb organizational hierarchy rather you will seldom find yourself in a situation where you would liek to back track.
If we start taking one very average case, we can easily realise the money spend in MBA program (be it b 1 yr Exe prgram which cost avg 15-20 Lacs in IIM / SP Jain Grate Lakes Chennai and even much more in ISB or even 2 yrs program) + what you dont earn for these 1 or 2 yrs + the other expenses comes to more than 30 lacs. And even you start your career with 15 lacs salary (which is avg sal of these insti n course) you end up more than 6-7 yrs to recover this cost (considering the earning as extra amount what you are earning now, i.e 5-7 Lacs)

Still you want to do MBA then y u choose IBS where u will very seldom touch fig of even 8-10 lacs. At least choose some better institi like above.

If done so, you will never say "avoid IBS". It is you who have opted wrong not IBS who have lifted you !!

Also....

I don't think that getting an MBA after 4 yrs will necessarily do that much to advance your career. I would suggest waiting a few years and seeing how things play out. If you do decide that getting the MBA makes sense, I would try to do it with the sponsorship of your company--many companies will pay part of the tuition for their employees to get a part-time MBA. If you don't work for such a company, consider trying to work for a company that does provide these kinds of opportunities.

I don't know how IBS or anyone supportive of the whole concept argue against those who go there?

Before joining the program I expected at least some minimum level of etiquette for the others which was missing and I expected a proper 'classroom' which was missing. (I am not going into the aspect of learning)

Just to clarify I don't want to bring the concepts of placements/ career prospects etc. in this discussion because I personally feel every person who puts in a couple of successful years in IT has enough contacts to take him through but I was commenting on the overall experience of attending IBS, sharing classroom with 'peers', farcial 'case study approach' and the supposed continuous assessment.

I have never depended on IBS for anything besides getting a degree but its still a hellish experience to go through for two years.

Maybe its due to some culture shock which only those who have some IT exposure can understand.

Imagine sharing a classroom with people who can't send emails or who don't know English?

Please stop blaming participants for choosing IBS. They did not deliver on what they promised..

A quick analogy -

The next time you get stuck in a traffic jam, hold yourself responsible for the mess. Why? Because you chose to drive when the road was full of potholes and messy drivers everywhere..!
