The Association of Management Development Institutions in South Asia (AMDISA), Asia's first global accreditation system, has recognized three South Asian business schools for the first time. These colleges are Management Development Institute in Gurgaon, Icfai Business School in Hyderabad and Suleman Dawood School Business at the Lahore University of Management Science in Lahore.
Talking to ET, AMDISA founder president Dharni Sinha said, there were two overriding criteria for the process, as per which, the colleges must have connections with a corporate system, community or a public agency and also a global faculty and network.
The colleges must have international faculty, programmes and case studies and student exchange programmes.
The association would also consider the education process, governance, recruitment and placements. The accreditation system, called the South Asian Quality Assurance Systems (SAQS), is a year-long process wherein the college undertakes a self-assessment programme with the help of a mentor from AMDISA and is vetted by a team of peer review experts.
Based on these recommendations, the accreditation committee chaired by Indian School of Business Dean M Rammohan Rao has picked the three colleges. The colleges have to re-apply for accreditation in five years and submit a progress report in two and half years, said Mr Sinha.
This accreditation is the third such global system and there are already two accreditation committees in the US and Europe.
Considering that there are 1,500 business schools in Asia, 1,200 in India, an Asian association has become necessary with quality becoming an important criterion and the system would give these colleges, recognition in the global scenario. AMDISA was set up in 1998 to help develop the network of Asian business schools with global institutes.
