well abhinav after having some work experience in this function i can assure you that CGPA wont make/break your career in marketing.ofcourse its always good to have a high CGPA , but its not a pre-requisite.
Howevr its a competetive world so one does need to ensure a safe level of cgpa atleast !

i agree it is quite important , but highly misunderstood.
if one does a small check one would find that the academic toppers are rarely the ones to have multiple offers or to be placed the first. One doesnt have to look further than our own campus for validation of the samw
those who make CGPA the means to the end , miss the dynamism and team work which MBA intends to instill , and this can be a deciding factor is their future professional success
so the best approach according to me is to have a health balance. CGPA is required - as its a pre interview filter so its vital to maintain a respectable CGPA. However once you cross the elimination round and sit face-face with the interviewer all that matters is what the experience of MBA has taught u and improves you rather than how many theories you have crammed in !

yeah i think a good cgpa would matter during the placement at our campus, as they have abt 600 student to deal with and approx 350 ppl taking up marketing as their major. yes your communication skills would matter in your gds nd interview bt you still need to qualify/ be eligible for that round, by having a decent cgpa. a cgpa of above 7 would anytime suffice.....

| i completely agree with abhinav that sadly for the marketing people the word sales and marketing seem to be inter changeable which i think is untrue and unfair.....as far as CGPA affecting the placements i really dont see that as a problem area cause those decent CGPA's are just an entry ticket for the further rounds of your dream company.......

Hi everybody,
Arguments like CGPA doesn't play a role in career is true in all aspect. The pitfall of this arguments is that at the B School entry level, students get too much carried away by this and doesn't care about their syllabus right from the first day(Like me). That is a serious point of concern
After missing the boat, i feel that not doing well in some subjects resulted in a comparatively less CGPA . However, industry demands multiskilled, multidextrous people. Translates to basic knowledge in all streams. This shall be achieved by having a serious approach to all first year papers.
As a piece of evidence, i can state my SIP(with IT service Co)wherein we work on building Finance sense to Codejockeys . As the industry moves to aviation, these jockeys has to become sensible pilots too.
If CGPA translates to wide knwoledge, then it is MUST
