This thread would be a platform to share batch 2008 experiences of the 1st year of MBA.

I was pretty clear that id make a difference to whichever institute i went -whether it be IIM or IIPM...i have such internal locus of controll. I have tried to walk the talk - its for u to decide if i have been able to make a difference or not.

Well i had my brother who did an MBA before me , so i had got some solid gyaan about an MBA experience from him.At that point i could not fully gasp or relate to what he said , but now i think he was perfectly on dot Exclamation

He said that 1st year is the phaze when you think you are right , while in 2nd yr you realise that u r not always right or rather there can be more than one rights to a single situation. During 2nd year u learn to accept other side of the view - he coined a term - U learn to AGREE TO DISAGREE Idea

Secondly he said that your close friends list will keep on changing from semester to semester. the one u didnt get along with in 1st sem would soon b a close buddy in 2nd sem and by 3rd sem it would go back to be a less friendly relationship....like a vicious circle. i thought this was absurd....but now i can vouch for this

MBA basically opens up ones ability to agree to disagree Wink

my 1st year was unlike any typical MBA student. i did everything that i wanted to do and never cared for what others think should be done. I never ran after CGPA , i participated in various b school competitions , started a guest lecture club called Atithi2008 , bunked classes a lot , never "makhanofied" the faculties....in short i was a rebel.

in the way i gave wrong impressions to lot of people about my arrogance. it was just that i knew what i wanted to do and my confidence was mistaken for arrogance (specially by those who could not be like me !)

The best part is inspite of all of this i always managed to score well , alas better than most of my peers and this made me loose a few more friends....

all in all i did exactly the opposite of a normal MBA student and in 2nd year i plan to be studious and study as now it would be only marketing subjects...which again would be hard to digest for most people who would not care much about CGPA anymore since the placements would already be over Very Happy

but i never came here for placements and i know right from the beginning that CGPA would not dictate my career . I am just too good for any recruiter to miss anyways Wink

hey friends,

my experience @ibs-g, has been a good one..
not in terms of knowledge, being a commerce graduate, had aready studied most of subjects during that times. the one thing i would like to share is that, i had imprved a lot in my communication skills. initially i was very scared of presenting in front of the such a large audience/ students.
as abhishek said that he had made and lost out on a lot of his friends, in that respect i was lucky, i held on to the friends i made in th first sem even in the secon sem...
yes i do agree to the fact that people are always ready to back stabb you in every aspect...so have to deal with it nd carry on with that.

in the 1st sem i als found ho people used to try out buttering the professor for marks (maska maarna)...i was very annoyed at that, probably because i never did...but its okay, as in the corporate wold you need some of this skill, for growth perspective....

Regards
Arun

Hey we already have threads for helping you guys out. Please post your requests there and we will certainly guide you. that's one of the objectives of this forum i guess Smile

Guide to 1st Semester
http://www.ibsrocks.com/guide-to-1st-sem-t102.html

Senior Batch at Help
http://www.ibsrocks.com/senior-batch-at-help-t108.html

also id like to quote abhishek's comments on another thread regarding behaviour etc

Quote:
if any senior gives immature comments - just ignore it ! if any senior goes overboard - u go to those who r mature and thy will sort it out. dont fight with the seniors - it just shows u as a bad manager....come to us , we will take care of it surely.evn in work life u have to handle this. Learn to Agree to Disagree asap. Secondly lower down your ego's for few days and learn to take wrng atitude by few seniors with a pinch of salt. u shoudnt fight . Dont Dis Respect even if u cant Respect

as far as behaviour with faculties go - man thts very important , ur internals depends on them , ur cgpa depends on internals , and ur placements depends on cgpa , and ur career depends on placements Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

hi, this is Dharmesh Jain from ibs-Kochi batch 2008
1st yr of MBA is really great in my life it change lot of thing, a person how not know abt accounts and finance, now have dream to be a very big in this field.
i got so many new frds which help me lot, before joining some body told me there are no frd in ibs, but that is very much wrong......
1st yr @ ibs is very good in term of learning
but most interesting thing @ is daily presentations, GD's, surprise quizzes which create lot of pressure for performing well in class to get well internals.
